Online education has become remarkably good at distributing information, but less successful at reproducing what makes learning, learning: conversation. Liberal Arts Centre was built around that gap. Conceived first as a reading group and later as a programme of eight-week courses, it treats learning as something that happens through dialogue, disagreement and community. An online classroom designed to eventually extend into a physical one.
The identity began by looking at the visual language of knowledge production, monospaced type, blackletter and academic publishing, before reducing these references into a quieter, more democratic typographic system. The logo unwraps through a Fibonacci sequence, suggesting knowledge as peer to peer learning: built through people adding to one another's ideas. That thinking extends into the website's visualisation, where course structures, seminar rhythms and community expectations drive the interface, orienting participants towards well informed decision-making.
Accessibility became the project's central design constraint. Rather than borrowing the visual codes of elite institutions, the system favours familiarity, clarity and participation. Typography does most of the work. Kensington lends the identity an understated academic character, while posters and editorial compositions introduce moments of play. References to Michelangelo's The Creation of Adam appear as typographic motifs, used as fragments rather than illustrations. The result is a visual system that goes beyond institutional performance, positioning learning as a shared practice.
